Start sowing from December in a heated greenhouse, or from mid-March in an unheated greenhouse or on a windowsill. Plant seeds in small pots or trays filled with seed compost, covering them lightly. Keep the soil moist and maintain a temperature of at least 18°C. Seeds should sprout within 7 to 10 days.

If you're using a windowsill, place the pots in the brightest spot and rotate them regularly to encourage straight growth. Pot on the seedlings if necessary before planting them outside. Plants that are to be grown in a greenhouse can be planted in mid to late April, while outdoor plants should be hardened off before being planted after the last frost, typically late May onwards.

As the plants grow, train them up strings or canes, pinch out side shoots, and remove any yellowing leaves. For optimal growth, feed the plants regularly with a full-spectrum feed that includes trace elements.

Enjoy the delicious, fresh Alicante tomatoes in a variety of ways. They're perfect eaten raw in salads, sliced on sandwiches, or tossed into bolognese, pasta bakes, sauces, and casseroles. You can also roast, grill, or use them to make fresh salsa, adding a burst of flavour to any meal.
