Why grow a mixture?

Mixtures offer a great variety of wildflowers to appeal to a whole range of native pollinators - every pollinator has slightly different requirements of a flower; and indeed flowering plants and pollinating insects have evolved together over millions of years. Some plants have long flower tubes, so need a bee or butterfly with a long tongue (proboscis). Others have short flower tubes. Some flower in spring, some flower in summer and some flower in spring and summer. It's all about providing the insects with ample food for as much of the season as possible.
